It's really small and the whole world is ruled by the royal family. The capital city where the royal family lives is called Bellamiou (bell-uh-MEE-oo). Bellamiou is surrounded by snowy mountains like the ones in the picture. It's cold through the months of September and late April. Temperatures can drop as low as -50 degrees Farenheit in the mountains and -20 degrees in the town. Through the months of May to August the weather is warmer. The hottest it gets is about 65 degrees in the town and about 40 degrees in the mountains. Snow is found on the mountains pretty much all year except occasionally summer, and snow is found all through winter, fall, and spring in Bellamiou. The whole world except Bellamiou is covered in mountains, with tiny little villages here and there with populations of about ten to twenty people, with names such as Creosvin (kree-OH-sven), Halidoah (ha-lih-DOH-uh), and Tlingor (TLIN-ohr). Bellamiou's population is between 1,000 to 1,500 people, not counting the royal family, the family's numerous servants, and the servants's families. The area of the city in square miles is about 200 miles squared. The royal family palace is on a low plateau just outside the city, so it can look down upon its inhabitants. A river cuts through the middle of the city, so the inhabitants can fetch fresh water. The beginning of the river is in the mountains and it ends just outside the palace, creating a small lake.
History and Other Information: The city and villages have endured famine and harsh winters. The government is a monarchy, ruled by the royal family. The royal family has mostly been just and fair, but there have been a few bad spots. Ironically, it was in the years of bad rulers did the world of O'Delemiere suffer the most. The main jobs are servants of the royal family, school teachers, traders & merchants, and subsistence farmers. The crops grown are mainly corn, wheat, and in a very mild and warm year rice. They raise cows and pigs. There are many crop failiures, deaths of livestock, and famines, at least 100 people die a year. That's a lot, considering there's not many to start with.
Weather: People of O'Delemiere often experience harsh snowstorms and blizzards where you can't see more than an inch in front of their face. In the summer, there are thunderstorms and plenty of rainstorms so sometimes the world experiences severe flooding. The capital city is called Silvana, with a population of about 100 people. It's rather small, you could almost call it a village instead. There are other villages in the forests and meadows with populations ranging from 10 people to 70 people. Silvana is in the middle of a small plain with plenty of flowers and grasses that grow. It is also good farmland, so most of Silvana's population are farmers. A stream runs through the town that came from the forest two miles away. The forest covers the rest of the world, which isn't all that big. Hunting is good in the forest, so every autumn most of the men from Silvana head over to the forest to hunt some deer or wild hogs. They don't have guns, though--only crossbows, bows and arrows, swords, and wooden sticks. Normally, all of the men in the village get about one huge deer, and later on that night, they feast. Culture, Religion, and Holidays: The people of Kishi all worship one goddess: Alma. Alma is, apparantly, all-powerful and all-seeing, and controls everything--the world, the universe, the stars, the other worlds. (But of course she doesn't.) To celebrate Alma, there are temples set up in every village on Kishi where every Saturday they come to the temple to pray. They also listen to a speech given by the shaman, the person in the town who can communicate with Alma. Alma is also known as the Goddess of the Roses. The holidays they celebrate are as follows: December First: Peaceful Day--any disputes between villagers are broken up, and if you have any rivals you spend the day with them. June 18th: Compassion Day--sort of like Valentine's Day, you send the one you love a bouqet of roses to express your feelings for them. Meanings of roses: white=beauty red=compassion blue=sadness black=evil, wicked yellow=happy lavender=peaceful orange=jealousy April 14th: Alma's Day--this day the villagers all celebrate Alma's existence and peaceful rule by going to the temple in the village and adorning it with roses while listening to a speech by the shaman. The second Monday of November: Expiration Day--the government gets rid of whoever has been disrupting the town in sacrifice for Alma. If no one has been disrupting the town, then the shaman randomly selects one person to be sacrificed on the Altar of Roses. October 17th: Huntsmen's Day--the men go out to the forest for a hunting session that lasts the whole week, hopefully coming back with food. Government: Kishi's main government is a command economy. They are run by communists who appoint themselves. However, in some small villages there is a democracy which votes for the mayor. But in Silvana it's a command economy. The government decides everything--how to dress, what to eat, even what job you will have when you grow up. The government also hates differences--people who think for themselves or don't look like everyone else. Farming: Almost all of Kishi's land you can farm on. Crops grown include corn, beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, apple trees, grape vines, and carrots. Villagers also grows roses because roses are the sacred flowers of Alma. Livestock raised includes goats, cows, and pigs. Weather: The weather is mild and warm from spring to autumn, getting to degrees as high as 100 degrees Farenheit. In winter the lowest it gets is 0 degrees Farenheit with small snowfalls here and there. Winter only lasts from late December to early February. Still, it is in winter when the most deaths occur. Wildlife: In the forest, plants like poison ivy, oak trees, pine trees, maple trees, and a couple wildflowers grow. Black bears and deer are common in the forest. On the plains, a wide variety of wildflowers grow. Animals include rabbits and mice and other small rodents.
